About the Self Care Fair
About Us​
The Self Care Fair was the brain child of Jamie Hyland-Usher, a massage therapist who began her career over 10 years ago with Massage Envy, and eventually grew into the role of Clinic Manager; today she is the Director of Operations for Massage Envy's entire Washington Region.
Jamie teamed up with another massage therapist named Lillian Anderson, and together they began reaching out to other industry associations, instructors, and vendors, all of whom immediately recognized the importance of a "day of care" for massage therapists and staff.
Little did Jamie and Lillian know the Self Care Fair would continue to grow into the annual event it is today!

History
Almost four years ago, we envisioned a day dedicated to massage therapists...
​
An opportunity to come together with other massage therapists to learn, experience, and feel nurtured.
​
So we started making lists of everything we'd wish to see under one roof—peers and colleagues we'd always looked up to, instructors we always wished we could take classes from, bodywork demonstrations we kept hearing about, vendors who supplied the kind of products we felt good about using...
And then to make the day as value-filled as possible, we began organizing as many CEU classes as we could offer in one day for the least possible cost.

Finally, to make sure the day felt like a fun getaway, we added a room full of self-care demo treatments (from Tibetan singing bowl therapy, to Ashiatsu Deepfeet Bar Therapy©), arranged a healthy catered lunch, got our favorite industry vendors to give us discounts, and collected all sorts of gifts and giveaways into an awesome Swag Bag.

That first year, we had no idea how popular it would turn out to be. Fast forward three years, and we are incredibly honored to present...

IASTM (Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization)

Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) utilizes specially designed instruments and techniques that help loosen and release fascial adhesions, providing effective treatment of scarring brought on by surgeries, injuries, and overuse of muscles.

What to Expect
Upon arrival at the college, free parking awaits you within walking distance of classes—so you don't have too far to bring your massage table and linens, etc. for any classes that require it.

Follow the sign to the Student Union Building for check in, located on the upper level. There you'll receive:

The Student Union building is also home to other activities, including a side room full of Self Care Demo Treatments (some require you sign up for a specific treatment time; be sure to coordinate with your registered class times), our Sponsor Booths, and Vendor tables. Lunch will also be served here along with our Featured Speaker's presentation.

Classes are held in various adjacent buildings; times and locations are included in your Event Program.
​
Lunch will feature a healthy taco bar, complete with beans and rice for vegetarian / vegan diets. During the afternoon, cookies and beverages will be available at various locations throughout the event. Additional snacks can be purchased from the college on the upper level of the Student Union.
